UPDATE 3: The pre-order offer has ended, but every copy of the book, regardless of how you get it, still allows you to buy a bottle of 2010 Stone Old Guardian Barley Wine Aged in Bourbon Barrels or 2010 Stone Old Guardian BELGO Barley Wine Aged in Wine or Bourbon Barrels, as supplies last. Whether you pre-order it or buy it at the book signing on Tuesday, September 27th or anywhere else, bring your book (no receipt necessary) to the Stone Company Store--Escondido to gain access to this amazing beer. UPDATE 2: The good folks at Warwick's have found a way to extend the online purchase option through September 9th, 2011. UPDATE 1: Our friends at Warwick's Books have graciously allowed us to extend our Quingenti Millilitre offer to encompass online sales through August 31st September 9th. That means that for each copy of The Craft of Stone Brewing Co.--Liquid Lore, Epic Recipes, and Unabashed Arrogance you purchase at warwicks.com through 8/31/11 9/9/11, you will be able to purchase one of these very limited bottles. Details on how this whole thing works below.
As loyal readers of this blog, you undoubtedly remember that we’re hard at work on a trifecta of books (here & here.) Well, we are incredibly excited to announce that The Craft of Stone Brewing Co.—Liquid Lore, Epic Recipes, and Unabashed Arrogance by Greg Koch and Steve Wagner with Randy Clemens is on the verge of release.
And because we’re just brimming with ideas, we’ve concocted a rewarding scheme to get the first book into your eager little hands with a brilliant bonus. You’ve probably been following our Quingenti Millilitre release drawing, which raised $15,000 dollars for the Escondido Creek Conservancy and Interfaith Family Services. Well, the next beers in the Quingenti Millilitre series are:
- 2010 Old Guardian Barley Wine Aged in Bourbon Barrels
- 2010 Old Guardian BELGO Barley Wine Aged in Bourbon Barrels
- 2010 Old Guardian BELGO Barley Wine Aged in Wine Barrels
Pretty frickin’ tasty sounding, eh? Well, they are. As you may have discerned from the introduction about the book, there’s a tie-in. Folks who pre-order the book at the Stone 15th Anniversary Celebration & Invitational Beer Festival will get the opportunity to buy the above beers. Here’s how it’s going to work:
- Come to the Stone Anniversary Fest
- Pre-order as many copies of the book as you like from the Warwick’s booth (they’re an awesome independent bookstore based in La Jolla.)
- Each pre-order allows you to buy one bottle from the above mentioned list (as supplies last, some are significantly more limited than others)
- Starting on September 26th, 2011, you’ll have a little more than a year, until September 30th, 2012, to come to the Stone Brewing Co. in Escondido and purchase your bottle
As an added bonus, each pre-ordered book will come signed by Greg, Steve, & Randy (additionally, they'll be at the Warwick's booth on Saturday at 12pm and 4pm.) With the one-year plus purchase window, if you’re coming in from out of town for the Stone 15th Anniversary Celebration and you pre-order the book, you’ll have plenty of time to plan a return visit to America’s Finest City. Oh, what’s that? You don’t have tickets to the Stone 15th Anniversary Celebration & Invitational Beer Festival? And now you’re a bit panicked because there are fewer than 10% of tickets remaining? Well in that case, you might want to get your tickets immediately. Although these beers aren’t bottled yet, we’re expecting there to be about 4,776 of the 2010 Stone Old Guardian Barley Wine Aged in Bourbon Barrels, and 550 of the two Belgo renditions. We’ll have a similar deal going at the Great American Beer Festival, where the actual book itself will be officially released (Greg & Randy will be there in person to sign your copy and compliment you on your choice of reading material). Unless an unexpectedly huge number of people take advantage of this little scheme at the Stone 15th Anniversary Celebration and the GABF, we expect to have other opportunities for folks to participate, potentially in a variety of places around the country. We will also have a book release event at the Stone Brewing World Bistro & Gardens on September 27th with the same parameters, with Greg, Steve, & Randy on hand to sign books.

You get to pick which beer you buy when you come in to buy them, if they are all still available.

Excellent! I'm missing the party this weekend, but I'll be sure to pick this up at GABF. Congrats on the book!

Whoa, optimize your image! (great post as always Jacob!)

Are any extra bottles going to be available for purchase in the Escondido store or what can we mere mortals who live in San Diego but unable to go to the festival do?
Submitted by jacob on August 19, 2011 - 10:41am
You can come to the book release event at the Bistro on the 26th.

If we live far away (for example, Seattle) and would love to get a copy of the book signed by Steve and Greg, will there be a way for us to do that? Thanks.

We'll see if we can figure something out for you.

So if I buy book(s)at GABF, I still have to get down to San Diego for the beers, right? Will this be like the raffle, it has to be ME, or could I send a proxy? Gonna have to cancel my Amazon pre-order...

The book is the ticket. Names are NOT attached to this deal. If a person has a book, and it has a special stamp, it is GUARANTEED to have a bottle held in association with that specific book for one year. If it does not have the special stamp, it's still a 'ticket' to buy the bottle on a first come, first served basis.

I'll be going on a national book signing tour this Oct or Nov. Dates & locations will be announced. Planning on 7 cities currently. Will have special beers in tow (of course)!

I preordered the book the minute I heard it was available on Amazon, does this mean I missed out on purchasing a beer because I was one of the early ones? Or will we have an opportunity as well?
Submitted by jacob on August 25, 2011 - 10:18am
Not necessarily. Each copy of the book pre-ordered through Warwick's GUARANTEES you the right to purchase one of the three Quingenti Millilitre beers. Copies of the book not purchased through Warwick's allows its owner to purchase one bottle of the beer ON A FIRST-COME, FIRST-SERVED BASIS. So if you want to assure yourself the opportunity to buy the beer, pre-ordering from Warwick's is the only way to do it.

Can we buy the kindle or i-tunes version of the book and qualify for the beer bottles?
Submitted by Taubin on August 24, 2011 - 4:05pm
I purchased the book at Stones 15th and they said I can pick the book up at Stone. What do I need in order to pick up the book and beer? Just the receipt? Thanks
Submitted by jacob on August 25, 2011 - 10:22am
Starting on release day, we'll have a list of everyone who pre-ordered at the store. Just come with your receipt on or after September 26th, and talk to someone at the Stone Company Store.

Cool idea, but Amazon has it for 15. Do you get a stamp with that one? Also, how much are the bottles?
Thanks
Submitted by Chris on August 25, 2011 - 10:24am
I just pre-ordered the book from Warwick's and got the email confirmation of the purchase of the book. Is there an additional email that is sent regarding the Signing and the Ticket?
Thanks
Submitted by jacob on August 25, 2011 - 12:58pm
Your book is your ticket for the beer. Since you pre-ordered, your book will come signed. We'll put information out about the release event soon.
Submitted by Curious George on August 25, 2011 - 7:03pm
Thanks Jacob. I think I might take my chances with amazon and get there early. How much are the bottles going to be?

I'm looking into preordering the book through Warwick's. I'm out of town, and have found someone to pick up my bottle for me. How do I go about arranging that he can pick up my book (and beer) at the release party? I only see options for store pickup and providing a shipping address on the Warwick's website.
Submitted by jacob on August 26, 2011 - 11:21am
How about you have the book shipped directly to your friend?
Submitted by Ken on August 26, 2011 - 10:41am
Will the other books that are being released (Greg's The Brewmaster’s Apprentice and Mitch/Steve's History of IPA) also have Quingenti Millilitre bottles attached to the release?
Submitted by Andy on September 2, 2011 - 7:56am
Thinking of pre-ordering from Warwick's and picking up the book at the Brewery. However, I wouldn't pick up the book and beer until December. Will that work?
Submitted by Nathaniel on August 19, 2011 - 9:37am
So for each pre-order we place we get to buy a beer. So if i pre-ordered 3 books do I put down which beer I want to get? or if get the 3 books could i get stuck getting 3 or 2 of the same beers essentially?
